Francis "Hank" Glenn Mitter

Francis “Hank” Mitter, 88 of Newburg, WV passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025 at his residence. He was born on April 18, 1937 in Newburg, son of the late John “Jake” Layman and Effie Edna (Larew) Mitter. Hank retired from his salvage yard after many dedicated years. A true tinkerer at heart, he loved working with anything mechanical — cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and whatever else he could get his hands on. He found joy in fixing, rebuilding, and bringing new life to the thing’s others had given up on. Hank is survived by three children, Larry Mitter (Barbara), Louisa, VA, Loretta Lyons (Rick), Newburg, and Rick Mitter (April), Marion, IL; three grandchildren, Thomas Mitter (Susan), Fellowsville, Janice Roof (David), Louisa, VA, Chris Mitter (Sarah), Marion IL; three great grandchildren, Ronin Roof, Jacob Mitter and Madelyn Mitter; one sister, Marcina Plum, Newburg; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by two sisters, Lucille Chipps (Delbert) and Wilma McNeill (Carl), two brothers, Lyle Vance Mitter, Gerald Mitter (Elizabeth “Tib”), one half-brother, Garner Larew (Dorothy); one brother-in-law, Charles Plum. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Avenue, Newburg, WV, on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and again on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will follow at Blackwood Cemetery.
