Harold "Pap" Wayne Mouser

Harold Wayne “Pap” Mouser, 88, of Independence, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2026. His final days were spent at home on the family farm, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on January 16, 1938, in Independence, West Virginia, the son of the late John Arthur Mouser and Pearl Genevieve Sharps Mouser.

Harold Wayne Mouser answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy in September 1955. He served honorably for seven years, attaining the rank of CS2 (SS), before being honorably discharged in December 1962. During his distinguished military career, he served throughout the Cold War and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was stationed aboard the submarines USS Sealion (SS-315) and USS Cutlass (SS-478).

Wayne had a lifelong passion of farming, a love that began in his early years and remained with him throughout his life. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator in Virginia and West Virginia, helping build numerous bridges and highways. He often shared stories with his family while traveling those roads, proudly pointing out projects he had helped construct. Later, he became self-employed and founded Mouser Trucking. Through his trucking business, he developed many lasting friendships and earned the respect of those who knew him. He enjoyed traveling and spending several winters in Florida. Wayne also loved playing cards, and an evening card game with family and friends was a cherished part of his daily routine.

Wayne was a faithful and active member of Independence Baptist Church.

He is survived by his six children: Kim Mouser of Independence; Mark Mouser (Michelle) of Morgantown; Carla Mouser of St. Marys, Georgia; Debbie Conover (John) of Charles Town; Craig Mouser of Independence; and Julie Mouser of Mechanicsville, Virginia.

He is also survived by twelve grandchildren: Andrea Atkinson (Rodney), Robert Mouser (Andrea), Amanda Taylor (Lindsay), Victoria Simon, Benjamin Simon, Jacob Conover, Bobbi Law (Jarod), Cara Conover, Jessi Cox (Tim), Dexter Mouser, John Andrew Emory (MacKenzie), and Aliza Emory; ten great-grandchildren: Kaleb Atkinson (Halle), Gabriel Catalano, Lincoln Mouser, Emery Mouser, Claire Mouser, Aviana Carrion, Zahra Anderson, Maisenne Law, Callahan Cox, and Jax Emory; and one brother, Arthur “Tom” Mouser; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Betty June Giuliani Mouser; his sisters, Genevieve Ann, Betty Fortney, and Sue Born; his sister-in-law, Anna Mouser; and his granddaughter, Abigail Mouser.

Graveside Service will be held at the WV National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Carl Trickett officiating and full military honors will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and US Navy Honor Guard.
