Jerry Murray Obituary

Jerry Lee Murray 85, of Sinclair community passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 peacefully on his farm with family by his side. He fought a courageous battle with Lung Cancer.  He was born on October 15, 1940, one of nine children in Sinclair, WV, he was a son of the late John Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Colebank) Murray. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed farming, camping, mushroom hunting, coon hunting and enjoyed every aspect of the country life. He looked forward to harvesting season every year. He was a hard worker his entire life. He worked many jobs including truck driving, coal mining, logging, and retired from Local Labors Union #379 as well as the Preston County Board of Education as a dedicated bus driver. After retirement he and his wife, Norma opened a country restaurant “Company’s Comin” in 2005. This was one of Jerry’s favorite hobbies. He enjoyed meeting and greeting all of the customers who returned regularly to hear his amazing stories, Jerry never met a stranger and made everyone feel at home. He will be missed beyond measure….  He married the love of his life Norma May (Knotts) Murray, on January 8, 1966, who he referred to as his Calamity. They shared a wonderful life and recently renewed their Wedding Vows of 60 years. They had 5 children and 3 grandchildren, three sons, Matthew Lee Murray (Rita), Newburg, Joseph Howard Murray, and Ashley Logan Murray, all of Fellowsville; one daughter, Jody Ann Hunter (Richard), Morgantown; three grandsons, Shayne Murray, Casey Murray and Grant Hunter; five siblings, Sarah Bolyard, Moatsville, Wanda King, Stevensburg, Sandra Murray, Fellowsville, Jack Murray, Fellowsville and John Murray and  wife, Pennie, Fellowsville; one brother-in-law, Junior Ray Bolyard, Sinclair; and several beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Melissa Ann Murray; two sisters, Barbara JoClair Bolyard and Shirley Holipski; one brother, Ernie Murray; his father and mother-in-law, Howard and Dona Knotts. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Street, Newburg, West Virginia, on Saturday, May 23 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday, May 24, 2026, from 12:00 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm with Pastor Eddie Martin officiating.
