Lulabelle (Akers) Barker

Lulabelle Barker, 75 of Newburg, WV passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. She was born on August 29, 1947 in Newburg, daughter of the late James Monroe and Susan “Susie” (Plum) Akers. She previously worked for the Preston County Board of Education as a Cook. Lulabelle loved cooking, baking, watching birds, getting flowers and collecting bells and rocks. Her life was her family and she loved spending time with the grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is survived by her husband whom she married on June 29, 1966, Roy “Sonny” Walter Barker; three children, Sherry Barker, Newburg, Mike Barker and Janie, Morgantown, Melissa “Missy” Benkiel and Mark, Gainesville, GA; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, Danielle, Michael, Mason, Joey and Jackie; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Linda Nelson and James, Tunnelton; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Lulabelle is preceded in death by one brother, James “Jimmy” Akers. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave, Newburg, WV on Saturday, March 25, 2023 from 3:00 pm-7:00 pm and on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:00 noon with Pastor Mark Benkiel officiating.
