Michael "Mike" Eugene Hovatter

Michael “Mike” Eugene Hovatter, 66 of Independence passed away on Thursday, July 09, 2020 at Mapleshire in Morgantown.  He was born January 28, 1954 in Morgantown, son of the late Floyd Osborn and Gertrude Jean Walls Hovatter. Mike graduated from Newburg High School, Class of 1972.  He served his country in the United States Army with two tours in Germany. He loved singing and playing his guitar at Church. He is survived by three brothers,  Gerald “Jerry” L Hovatter and Ruby, Providence, NC, Dennis “Wimp” Hovatter and Shirley, Independence, James Andy Hovatter and Kathy, Sterling, VA;  two sisters, Judith “Judy”A Friend, Independence, Sue E Wolfe and Ralph, Charles Town, WV; two nephews, Matt Wolfe and Dewey Wolfe and Gretchen; three great-nephews, Koa, Daxton and Gavin; one great-niece, Keala. A special thank you to the nurse’s and staff at Mapleshire for the great care Mike received. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Harvest House Ministries PO Box 212 Newburg WV 26410. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 1-6 pm. A graveside will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020 at WV National Cemetery at 12 noon with Pastor Terry Wilt officiating where military honors will be accorded by the Taylor County Honor Guard and the US Army National Guard of Camp Dawson.
