Richard "Rick" Lawrence Cornwell

Richard “Rick” Lawrence Cornwell, 75 of Independence, WV, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 with family by his side. He was born on August 18, 1948 in Morgantown, son of the late Lawrence Junior and Sylvia Louise (Smith) Cornwell. Rick graduated from Newburg High School, Class of 1965, and attended West Virginia Business College. He owned and operated Preston Paper from 1995-2019 when he retired. Rick was a member and active with the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, president of the Bethlehem Cemetery Association, Newburg Rotary, Kingwood Eagles, Lifetime Member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Monongalia Lodge #10, Ham Operator #KB8CVR. He enjoyed talking on the phone, and riding his Harley Davidson. Rick is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Linda Lou (Fortney) Cornwell whom he married on June 15, 1980; one brother, John Arthur Cornwell, Independence; two sisters, Elnora Jennings, Independence, Melanie Goff and Eugene, Independence; sisters-in-law and spouses, Lucille Trickett Hovatter of Reedsville, Loretta Christopher of Kingwood, Jeanette Friend of Reedsville, Shirley and Dennis Hovatter of Independence, Barbara and Chester Wilkins of Masontown, Cathy Fortney, Reedsville; several nieces, nephews. In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Blaine Jennings, Robert Fortney, Ray Fortney, Grant Christopher and Zayne B Hovatter Jr; sisters-in-law, Donna Marie Cornwell and Doris Fortney. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 12 Noon until time of service at 5:00 PM with Pastor Maria Wiblin officiating. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at 1:00PM at Bethlehem Cemetery, Dogtown Road. Online condolences can be sent at www.bolyardfuneralhomewv.com.
