Richard "Rick" Pyles Obituary

Richard Paul “Rick” Pyles, 74, of Fairmont, passed away Friday, January 9, 2026 at Mon Health Medical Center surrounded by loved ones. He was born on June 4, 1951 at the Grafton City Hospital, the youngest of the late Wilma Rudell Pyles and George Lawson Pyles. Richard is survived by his son, Richard Scott Pyles and Earlene of Fairmont; grandson, Joseph Richard Scott Pyles and Emily of Morgantown, expecting their first child in June 2026; siblings, Rev. Truman L. Pyles and Wanda of Ball Ground, GA, Doris J. Wotring and Charles of Kingwood, WV, Roger A. Pyles of Independence, WV, Marvin E. Pyles and Yong on Radcliff, KY, Patrick F. Pyles of Port Townsend, WA, and sister-in-law, Carol Pyles of Guyton, GA; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Richard is also survived by a close friend and companion, Linda Rush McCray. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 46 years, Debra Frances Pyles, whom he missed every day since her passing in November 2015. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Daniel L. “Danny” Pyles, Sr., and sister-in-law, Carol J.B. Pyles, and nephew Allen D. Pyles; and nephew, Marcus L. Pyles. Richard owned and operated Rick’s Auto Repair for just over 25 years with his son until closing earlier this month. He saw his customers as family and friends, and treated them as such. Prior to opening his own repair facility he spent many years working at Hardman’s Exxon in Fairmont and White Hall. Being a true car guy, Rick spent much of his free time driving and showing his collector cars, most notably, his 1973 Ford Torino. Over the years, he was involved in multiple local car clubs, including the Mon Valley Sports Car Club, the Dream Machines Car Club, and Over the Hill Kruzers. When he wasn’t enjoying his cars, he spent time working in his garden, landscaping around his home, and riding ATVs with friends and family. Richard attended the White Hall Church of Christ in Deerfield. There he found comfort and community with friends, old and new. The family would like to extend their gratitude to his care teams at WVU Medicine, Country Roads Physical Therapy in Whitehall, the emergency care team at Mon Health Marion Neighborhood Hospital, the Marion County Rescue Squad, Health Net Aeromedical Services, and the ICU team at Mon Health Medical Center for their tireless work in providing him with the best care possible. The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday, January 16, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The service will be at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with Kevin Lough officiating. Interment will follow at Gladesville Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.domicofh.com.
