Robert "Bob" Thompson Obituary

Robert “Bob” Lewis Thompson, 74, of Fellowsville, WV (Marquess community), passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 9, 2026.

Bob was born on May 9, 1951, in Uniontown, PA, the son of the late John “Junior” F. Thompson and Helen “Trudy” (Garred) Thompson. He was a graduate of Brownsville High School, Class of 1969. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He furthered his education at the Fayette Institute of Commerce and Technology, earning a welding certification, and later attended Penn State, where he obtained an Associate Degree in Business Administration and Management.

Throughout his life, Bob held many jobs that he truly enjoyed. He worked as a welder at Hillman Barge, Pullman Standard, and the Crystal River Nuclear Power Plant. He also worked as a bartender at the Elks, performed contracting work, and held positions with the Veterans Administration and Ace Hardware.

Bob loved life and lived it fully. He grew up playing pool in Brownsville and enjoyed poker. He was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved watching games with his beloved wife. He cherished time spent with his family, enjoyed late-night movies with his “Angel,” and looked forward to game nights playing cards. Bob especially loved being a “Pappy” to his grandchildren—playing with trucks and making family memories, including beach vacations.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Melanie K. (Murray) Thompson; his son, Jason Thompson; stepdaughter, Rebecca Kunkle (Michael); stepsons, Tony Teets (Crystal) and Doug Lilley; brothers, Russell Thompson (Carol Smarslok) and Raymond Thompson; sister, Patty Jeffries (Jim); grandchildren, Barrett Kunkle, Reagan Kunkle, Jay Thompson, Tyler Hight, and Jenna Hight; sisters-in-law, Carol Sigley (Danny) of Hohenwald, TN, Maria Haskiell, and Debora Murray, both of Marquess; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Eric Lee Thompson; his father- and mother-in-law, William “Bill” R. Murray and Myrl V. Murray; and brothers-in-law, Johnny R. Murray and George “Jake” Haskiell Jr.
