Roy Bolyard Obituary

Roy Allen Bolyard, 81, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away surrounded by loved ones on December 3rd, 2023.
Roy was born on March 8, 1942 to Roy Henry and Thelma (Catlett) Bolyard in Gladesville, WV. He graduated from Newburg High School and the WV State Police Academy in Charleston, WV.
In 1963, Roy married his high school sweetheart, Martha Ann Ervin. Together they raised three children.
Roy’s career in law enforcement spanned over 35 years, beginning as a clerk for the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Washington, DC, campus security lead at Winchester Medical Center, and culminating with his post as Deputy Federal Marshal in charge of court security at the Federal Building in Martinsburg. Roy was very well known and highly respected throughout the State for his 25-year service as a West Virginia State Trooper, rising to the rank of First Sergeant, District Commander.
On November 4, 2022, Martha - the love of his life, went ahead of Roy to prepare their home in Heaven where they are reunited forever.
Roy is survived by his loving children, Megan (Gregory) Cooke, Bradley (Chrystal) Bolyard, and Matthew Bolyard; grandchildren, McKena Cooke, Kiley Cooke, Katherine (Nicholas) Idler, Andrew (Cassidy) Bolyard, Emma Bolyard, Amber Hall, Jacob Barcomb, and Gabrielle Kabat; great-grandchildren, Walker Idler, Ayden and Avery Hall; beloved sister-in-law, Alice Rosalie Thompson; niece, Pamela Thompson; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Charlene Bolyard, William and Norma Bolyard, Gary and Sandra Bolyard, several nieces, and nephews and extended family, Hunter Martin and Chrissy Nelson. Roy was preceded in death by his father and mother, brother-in-law, Raymond Thompson, daughter-in-law, Brenda Bolyard, and grandson, Christopher Miller.
Roy was a faithful member of Pikeside United Methodist Church in Martinsburg, WV, where he served as a Trustee and was always willing to lend a helping hand with various church projects and initiatives that furthered the outreach and impact the church had in and around the community. Roy was a servant leader who spent many hours delivering Meals on Wheels, packing lunches with Kidz Power Pac, and along with his wife Martha and church family selflessly supporting the special missions and ministries of Pikeside UMC. Roy was known throughout the community for his wit, unassuming strength, and kindness – always somehow knowing what was needed and by whom – never seeking recognition for his many, many good deeds.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Roy’s name to the following: Pikeside United Methodist Church, 25 Paynes Ford Road, Martinsburg, WV 25405 Damon Cemetery Association, PO Box 98, Newburg, WV 26410
