Sonny Barker

Sonny Barker, 78 of Newburg, WV passed away on Wednesday, November 08, 2023 at Ruby Hospital with family by his side. He was born on January 24, 1945 in Newburg, son of the late Roscoe Clifton and Eva Mae (Johnson) Barker. Sonny had worked for Kenny Drilling in PA, as a custodian and school bus driving for Preston County Board of Education, and did construction in VA. He enjoyed listening to music, Nascar Racing, working on his Ford Trucks and restoring them with his son and grandson. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandbabies. Sonny is survived by his three children, Sherry Barker, Newburg, Mike Barker and Janie, Morgantown, Melissa “Missy” Benkiel and Mark, Richmond Hill, GA; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Tyler, Danielle, Michael, Mason, Joey and Jackie; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul Barker, Jerry Barker both of Newburg; two sisters, Barbara Mitter, Newburg, Linda Dean and husband Eddie, Rowlesburg; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his wife, Lulabelle (Akers) Barker on March 2023, the love of his life and they are now dancing in heaven together; one brother, Charles “Buddy” Barker; seven sisters, Betty Felicia, Mary McGinnis, Shirley Menefee, Margaret Goff, Bonnie Wiles and Frances “Patty” Stemple, Genevieve Stemple. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave, Newburg, WV on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm and on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mark Benkiel officiating.
