Thomas Franklin Pratt

Thomas Pratt, 82, of Tunnelton passed away peacefully on Jan 11, 2021 at 216 am in Seton Northwest Hospital in Austin, Tx holding his daughters-in-law, Donna’s hand. Thomas was known by Tom, Tommy, Dad, or Pap. Tommy fought a hard fight with vascular dementia. He was born in Tunnelton, on January 18, 1939, the son of the late James Richard “Claude” and Orpha Esther Goff Pratt. Thomas worked as a Coal Miner with over thirty-two years of service at Mettiki Coal Company LLC in Deer Park, MD; he was a Methodist by faith. Thomas is survived by one son, David Allen Pratt and wife Donna, a daughter-in-law, Teresa “Michelle” Casteel Pratt West and husband Lloyd, all of Texas; two grandchildren, Misty Lynn Pratt Dean and husband Greg of Texas and Thomas “TJ” James Allen Pratt and wife Katie Ann of Westover; seven great-grandchildren, William, Matthew, Aiden, Haylei, Austin, Colton and Nicole; one brother, Darwin Pratt and wife Elaine, two sisters, Elizabeth “Ruth” Shannon and husband Dr. Claude “Kennard” Shannon, Tunnelton and a brother-in-law, Robert Grubb, Fairmont; one brother-in-law, James Zuchowski; several nieces and nephews. Several children and grandchildren who he was like a father/grandfather to over the years. These include Ashley and Brad Kyle, David “Dink” Hudson all of Tunnelton, and Bobby and wife Tammy Hemminway of Charlestown, WV,  Russ and Shelby Kyle and her siblings. Tommy’s hobbies included gardening, hunting, working on the farm, driving his Ford truck, and horseback riding. In addition to her parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his loving wife in 2019, Patricia Ann Watkins Pratt; one son, Larry Pratt, daughter and son-in-law, Sheila Pratt Jenkins and Burton Jenkins, two sisters, Shirley Ann Pratt Zuchowski and Lulu McCandless Grubb; one brother, Daniel Joe Pratt, and a niece Tori Ann Pratt. Special thanks to the Kyle’s- Russ, Shelby, Brad, Ashley and Jason Haskiell (who cared for him in his home in WV after his wife, Patty, passed away), Sandy Bolyard, the Shannon family- Uncle Kennard, Ruth, Deidre who assisted him when his wife was dying, and Raymond Mercure, a longtime family friend who helped where and when he could with appointments and companionship. Special thanks to Misty Pratt, his granddaughter, and David “Dink” Hudson who traveled to WV with Donna to bring him to Texas for special medical care. To Pecan Ridge Memory Care staff & Ramona (where he resided), Halcyon Home Personal Care Services (who sat with him during his quarantine and trying times at night), Seton NW Hospital staff (who cared for him during his final days), Compassus Hospice (who was great and compassionate), and Seton inpatient hospice services (the GIPs program for complex hospice care who was excellent), Janet’s Heavenly Home in Tunnelton, WV, Preston Memorial Hospital in Kingwood, WV, an WV Care Hospice in Masontown, WV. Family and friends will be received at Bolyard Funeral Home, 79 Morgantown Ave. Newburg, WV, Monday, January 18, 2021 from 2-7pm and Tuesday, January 19, 2021 from 9am until time of service at 11am with Pastor Mark McGinnis officiating with proper distancing and face mask required.
