Velma Berlene (Scott) Hawley, 93 of Newburg, WV passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at Kingwood Healthcare Center with family by her side. She was born on October 25, 1932 in Valley Point, daughter of the late Wilfred Marvin Scott and Nitia Grace (Miller) Scott Arbogast. Velma was a Nurse’s Aide at Preston Memorial Hospital for 20 years and was a Home Care Nurse for Home Health before retiring. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting and quitting. Velma is survived by one son, Donald Charles Hawley, Reedsville; one daughter, Connie Sue Adkins, Irish Ridge, Newburg; four grandchildren, Larry Hawley (Chandel), William Greaser, Correna McDaniel (Tommy), Tammy Thiel (Eugene); six great-grandchildren, Kayla Hawley, Ashley McMillen (K.C.), Steven Thiel (Brianna), Christopher Thiel (Lauren), Justin Thiel (Abby), Curtis Zuchowski; seven great-great grandchildren, Landon, Maddox, Aaliyah, Amelia, Dominic, Braxton, Kinsley; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Hawley; one son, Ronald Allen Hawley; one son-in-law, Pastor Barry Adkins; one daughter-in-law, Dottie Hawley; two sisters, Norma Catlett and Wilma Bolyard; one brother, Milford Kent Scott. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jerry LaRue officiating at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kingwood.
