Warren "Sonny" Martin Obituary

Warren Franklin Martin (“Sonny”) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023. He was a dedicated loving husband and father of two. Sonny was 79 years old. He was the fourth born son. Sonny was born to Percy Martin and Violet Friend-Martin on October 14, 1943. He was raised in the small community of Kanescreek with his five brothers: James E., Percy, Donald, Thomas, and Terry Martin. The Martin brothers were musically inclined and would meet at the Martin homestead to play the banjo, the fiddle, the mandolin, and guitar when they were younger. The music would fill up the community as they played and sang. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. He was survived by his wife, Janet F. Weaver-Martin; his children Julie A. Martin-Gower and spouse David R. Gower (also considered a son) and Daniel B. Martin.  Sonny had 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren in addition to many adored nieces and nephews and surrogate children. Everyone who knew Sonny felt his big heart and giving nature. He will be missed especially by his 6 grandchildren, with whom he spent countless hours taking camping, fishing, and hunting. He loved watching his great grandbabies. Sonny previously requested a cremation and ash spreading at Spruce Knob where he spent a lot of time camping, fishing, and enjoying nature. A special mention includes a thank you to Linda Maier (Janet’s older sister) and Jennifer Depamore, RN of WV Caring. Both went above and beyond anything imagined. Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to his care fund on his memorial page. Bolyard Funeral Home is handling the cremation and honored to serve the Martin family.
