William Howard King (Bill), 69, of Locust Grove Road, Moatsville, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at WV Caring in Elkins, WV. Bill was born on July 26, 1956, in Kingwood, WV to Wanda King (Murray) of the Stevenburg Community and the late Clarence King of Johnson City, TN. Bill was a beloved father of two daughters and grandfather to three granddaughters. He graduated from Kingwood High School (Class of 1975). While in high school he worked at the Dairy Mart in Kingwood and the WVU Farm at Reedsville. Shortly after graduation from high school he decided to join the Marines. He completed his basic training at Paris Island, SC. He was later injured in a training exercise and received a medical discharge. He decided to move to Virginia and began a career in operating heavy equipment and moving heavy equipment between job sites for the Sisson Corporation with whom he was employed for 15+ years. He loved moving earth and preparing land for commercial and housing developments. He also lived in Atlanta, GA for a while and worked for meat packaging company while living there. Bill returned to his beloved West Virginia after many years away and began working and helping his family and friends whenever they called him. He was knowledgeable about machinery and heavy equipment and helped anyone who called and asked for assistance. Bill loved helping his family and friends with their projects and took a lot of satisfaction in lending a hand. He also loved to hunt and fish and really enjoyed doing so in Colorado with his friend, Gary Bowman. Bill never met a stranger and could tell or spin a story, whether about chaos around job sites, retelling stories of his youth with family, or just a funny story he picked up from life experiences. He loved to talk and share experiences. He loved spending time with friends and family. Maya Angelo said it best, “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you make them feel.” Bill loved his family! Throughout his younger life he spent many hours with his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He loved family “get-togethers,” and the time spent reminiscing and sharing. The saying, “Family is a little bit crazy, a little bit of loud, and a whole lot of love,” fit him perfectly. He always tried to be there for his daughters whether to just chat, give advice, or help in some way. When he became a “Grandpa” he would often ask“how do you girls keep up with these babies?” The same could be asked of his mother when he was a child, his daughters replied to him. “Just the grandpa genes showing.” In addition to his mother Wanda, Bill is survived by his two daughters: Lindsay Borden of Virginia, and Jacqueline King of Virginia. Three granddaughters, Abigail Borden, Eleanor Borden, and Charlotte King. Two sisters, Linda Knotts (Edward) of Marquess Road, and Elizabeth King of Stevenburg. Aunts: Sarah Bolyard, Sandy Murray, Uncles: Jerry Murray (Norma), Jack Murray, John Murray (Pennie); one niece, Brianna Knotts and one nephew, Jonas Knotts; as well as many cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, John & Mary Murray, Virginia King-Forren, three uncles, Ernie Murray, Kazmire Holipski, William Boore, three aunts, Shirley Holipski, Barbara Bolyard, and Janet Boore. There will be no visitations as per Bill’s wishes. He donated his body to science, with hopes that it may help someone in the future.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
